There are few coastlines, anywhere, to equal the magnificence of the Gower Peninsula. There are fewer still that can match the quality of its fishing. Variety is the key word. From the humble pouting so often the christening fish for excited youngsters new to angling, to the powerful tope or menacing conger eels that the more experienced yearn for, Gower will provide your sport. There is something for everyone of all ages. There is ample opportunity for the specialists to practise their art or the novice to learn the basics. From South Gower’s rocky outcrops to North Gower’s estuarine mudflats nowhere is there more scope for the patient shore angler to succeed.
As with all forms of sea angling don’t forget the safety aspect. Remember to watch the tides if you’re fishing at the low water mark. Remember to watch the waves if you’re perched on some rocky promontory. Remember to exercise common sense when climbing up and down cliff paths. Remember to respect the sea at all times.
This guide has been written for fishermen by a fisherman. Everything written has been personally experienced or personally witnessed. With confidence I welcome you to Gower. Enjoy your stay, enjoy your fishing. It’s an experience you’ll remember for a long time.

There are eleven major centres described here for novice and visiting anglers to catch fish. Over twenty five different species common to shore fishing on the Gower coastline. No doubt there are those amongst you who will add to that list of species. Each year something out of the ordinary turns up. Red mullet, trigger fish, small blue sharks - even a thresher has been caught in the past! Many of you will add other venues to those that I’ve listed for there are plenty of locations that for reasons of transport, or distance or remoteness I have not mentioned as being practical for the visiting angler. Neither have I mentioned Swansea Bay from Mumbles Pier eastwards to the Dock Breakwater, although much of this area has become more popular as a charter boat area - and a very successful one as well.
For now be content with the treasure chest of sport that Gower has to offer you all. And remember - don’t forget to bring your camera for the one that nearly got away!
